Angel (Thomas Halloway)

Angel (Thomas Halloway), also known as the Angel of Death, is a fictional character appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is a Golden Age comic book hero, predating Marvel's Silver Age revival and unrelated to the better-known mutant Angel (Warren Worthington III) of the X-Men.

Thomas Halloway was a masked vigilante operating primarily in the 1940s. He possessed no superhuman powers. Instead, he relied on his exceptional athletic abilities, particularly his leaping and acrobatics, and his skills as a detective and hand-to-hand combatant. His costume consisted of a red and blue outfit with a mask, often featuring a stylized winged emblem.

Angel was created by writer/artist Paul Gustavson. He first appeared in Marvel Mystery Comics #2 (December 1939), published by Timely Comics, a predecessor to Marvel Comics. He was one of Timely's earliest and most popular characters, appearing regularly in Marvel Mystery Comics and other anthology titles.

His storylines typically involved combating gangsters, Nazi saboteurs, and other threats to national security during World War II. He often teamed up with other Golden Age heroes.

After the Golden Age, Angel faded into obscurity. He has been revived on occasion in modern Marvel comics, often as part of flashbacks or historical narratives detailing the exploits of Golden Age heroes. These revivals have sometimes explored the legacy of the Golden Age heroes and their impact on the modern Marvel Universe. He is generally portrayed as a respected figure from a bygone era of heroism.
