Pink Star (diamond)

The Pink Star is a 59.60-carat (11.92 g) oval mixed-cut pink diamond. At the time of its sale in April 2017, it was the largest Internally Flawless Fancy Vivid Pink diamond ever graded by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

The diamond was mined by De Beers in 1999 in South Africa. The rough diamond, originally weighing 132.5 carats, was meticulously cut and polished over a period of two years by Steinmetz Diamonds. It was first unveiled to the public in 2003 under the name "Steinmetz Pink."

In November 2013, the Pink Star was sold at auction by Sotheby's in Geneva to Isaac Wolf for $83 million, a record price for any gemstone ever sold at auction. However, the sale was later rescinded after Wolf defaulted on the payment.

The Pink Star was subsequently re-auctioned in April 2017 at Sotheby's in Hong Kong and was sold to Chow Tai Fook Enterprises for $71.2 million, setting a new record price for a diamond sold at auction. The diamond was renamed the CTF Pink Star in honor of the Chow Tai Fook family.

The Pink Star's exceptionally large size, vibrant color, and flawless clarity contribute to its remarkable value and status as one of the world's most valuable diamonds.
