Anchor Bay (Michigan)
Anchor Bay is a body of water located in southeastern Michigan, forming the northwestern portion of Lake St. Clair. It is situated between Macomb County, specifically Harrison Township, and St. Clair County, notably Ira Township and Chesterfield Township. The bay receives the outflow of the Clinton River, the largest river flowing into Lake St. Clair.
Geographically, Anchor Bay is characterized by relatively shallow waters, making it popular for recreational boating, fishing, and swimming. The area is also a significant stopover point for migratory waterfowl.
Economically, the region surrounding Anchor Bay is heavily reliant on tourism and recreational activities centered on the lake and bay. Several marinas, waterfront restaurants, and residential communities cater to these activities.
The name "Anchor Bay" is believed to derive from its historical use as a safe harbor for ships seeking refuge from storms on Lake St. Clair.
