pardon (magazine)

Pardon was an American humor magazine published from 1957 to 1963. Founded by cartoonist Harvey Kurtzman after he left Mad magazine, it aimed for a more sophisticated and satirical approach to humor, targeting a more adult readership.

Pardon featured contributions from many notable cartoonists and writers, including Jack Davis, Will Elder, Al Jaffee, Arnold Roth, Jules Feiffer, Art Buchwald, and Terry Southern. The magazine's humor was characterized by its biting social commentary, political satire, and willingness to tackle controversial subjects. It often lampooned advertising, consumerism, politics, and societal norms.

Despite its high quality and critical acclaim, Pardon struggled to find a large audience and faced financial difficulties. It ceased publication after only eleven issues. While its run was short-lived, Pardon is remembered for its innovative and influential approach to humor and its contributions to the development of American satire. It is often cited as a precursor to later humor publications like National Lampoon. The magazine's original issues are now considered collector's items.
