James Alm
James Alm is an American economist specializing in public finance, tax policy, and development economics. He is currently a Professor of Economics at Tulane University, where he holds the Murphy Institute Professorship of Economics.
Alm's research focuses on various aspects of taxation, including tax compliance, tax evasion, and the behavioral effects of tax policies. He has published extensively on these topics in leading academic journals. His work often incorporates experimental methods to analyze individual and firm responses to different tax regimes.
Beyond taxation, Alm also studies issues related to economic development, particularly in developing countries. This research explores topics such as institutional quality, governance, and the impact of economic policies on poverty reduction.
Alm has served as a consultant to numerous international organizations, including the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the United Nations. He has also advised governments on tax policy reform. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University.
