Pennsylvania Avenue station (IRT New Lots Line)
The Pennsylvania Avenue station is a local station on the IRT New Lots Line of the New York City Subway. Located at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Livonia Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn, it is served by the 3 train at all times except late nights, when the 4 train takes over service.
The station has two side platforms and three tracks. The center track is not used in revenue service. The platforms are canopied for their entire length.
The station opened on November 22, 1920, as part of the extension of the IRT New Lots Line from Utica Avenue to New Lots Avenue. This extension was part of Contract 3 of the Dual Contracts.
The station has two entrances/exits. The primary entrance is located at the northeast corner of Pennsylvania and Livonia Avenues. Another entrance, often unstaffed, is located at the northwest corner of the same intersection. Both entrances lead to mezzanine levels above the platforms, where fare control is located.
