Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (film)
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is a 2009 American computer-animated science fantasy comedy film produced by Sony Pictures Animation and loosely based on the 1978 children's book of the same name by Judi and Ron Barrett. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller in their directorial debut, the film features the voices of Bill Hader, Anna Faris, James Caan, Andy Samberg, Bruce Campbell, Mr. T, Benjamin Bratt, and Neil Patrick Harris.
The film follows Flint Lockwood, an aspiring inventor living in the small island town of Swallow Falls, whose economy is based solely on sardines. Flint, tired of the repetitive sardine diet, creates a machine that converts water into food. After a malfunction sends the machine into the atmosphere, it begins raining food on the town. While initially celebrated, the uncontrolled abundance of food leads to monstrously large portions and environmental chaos. Flint, along with aspiring meteorologist Sam Sparks, must find a way to shut down the machine before the entire world is engulfed in oversized food.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs received positive reviews for its animation, humor, and voice acting. It was a box office success, grossing over $243 million worldwide. A sequel, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, was released in 2013.
