2014 FIFA World Cup qualification (UEFA)
The 2014 FIFA World Cup qualification (UEFA) was a series of qualifying tournaments organized by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to determine the 13 European national teams that would participate in the 2014 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil. The qualification process began in September 2012 and concluded in November 2013.
Fifty-three UEFA member national teams were divided into nine groups (eight groups of six teams and one group of five teams) via a draw held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 30 July 2011. Teams within each group competed in a home-and-away round-robin format.
The winners of each of the nine groups automatically qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The eight best runners-up from the group stage advanced to a two-legged playoff round, where they were drawn into four pairings. The winners of each playoff round also qualified for the World Cup. The seeding for the playoff draw was based on the FIFA World Ranking published in October 2013.
