Kenneth Alexander (economist)

Kenneth Alexander is a Scottish economist and academic administrator. He served as the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dundee from 2009 to 2018. Prior to that, he held the position of Vice-Principal (Strategy & External Relations) at the University of Strathclyde.

Alexander's research interests lie primarily in the fields of public finance, local government finance, and economic development. He has published extensively on these topics and has advised various governmental and non-governmental organizations. He holds a PhD in Economics and has held professorships at multiple universities. His work often focuses on the impact of government policy on regional economies and the effectiveness of different approaches to economic regeneration. Alexander is known for his contributions to the understanding of fiscal decentralization and the financial challenges faced by local authorities. After his tenure as Principal of Dundee, he served in advisory roles, including on the Scottish Fiscal Commission.
