Over the Rainbow (Connie Talbot album)
Over the Rainbow is the debut album by British child singer Connie Talbot, released on 26 November 2007. Talbot, at the age of seven, gained popularity as a finalist on the first series of Britain's Got Talent in 2007. The album primarily features covers of popular songs and standards, including "Over the Rainbow" (originally from The Wizard of Oz), "White Christmas," "I Will Always Love You," and "Ben."
The album's release was preceded by considerable media attention surrounding Talbot's young age and her success following Britain's Got Talent. Despite losing the competition, she signed a record deal with Rainbow Recording Company. The album was produced by Simon Hill and was marketed towards the Christmas season.
Over the Rainbow achieved commercial success, reaching number one in several countries, including Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan. It peaked at number 35 on the UK Albums Chart. The album received mixed reviews, with some critics praising Talbot's vocal ability for her age, while others questioned the ethics of exploiting a child performer.
The album's success led to subsequent albums and continued performances by Connie Talbot. Over the Rainbow remains a notable example of the early career of a child artist who achieved significant commercial success after a television talent show appearance.
