183rd (2nd Gloucester and Worcester) Brigade

The 183rd (2nd Gloucester and Worcester) Brigade was a territorial infantry brigade of the British Army that formed part of the 61st (2nd South Midland) Division. It was originally designated the 2nd South Midland Brigade, becoming the 183rd Brigade upon the division's redesignation as the 61st Division in August 1915.

The brigade was composed primarily of battalions from the Gloucestershire Regiment and the Worcestershire Regiment, drawn from the counties of Gloucestershire and Worcestershire. As a territorial formation, the brigade was largely composed of part-time soldiers who volunteered for service.

During World War I, the 183rd Brigade saw active service on the Western Front. The brigade participated in numerous major battles and campaigns, including actions on the Somme and at Passchendaele. Its constituent battalions suffered significant casualties throughout the war.

Following the Armistice in 1918, the 183rd Brigade was demobilized as part of the general reduction in the size of the British Army. The territorial units were later reformed during the interwar period, although the specific composition and designation may have changed. Records after the immediate post-war period are less detailed regarding brigade-level organization and specific unit designations.
