Hercule (film)
Hercule (also known as Hercules) is a 1983 Italian-American fantasy adventure film directed by Luigi Cozzi and starring Lou Ferrigno as the titular hero. The film offers a re-imagining of the classical Greek myth of Hercules, transplanting the character into a science fantasy setting involving cosmic elements and futuristic technology alongside traditional mythical creatures.
In this version, Hercules is the son of Zeus sent to Earth to protect it from the evil King Minos and his sorcerer Dedalos. He wields immense physical strength, battling monsters and using various gadgets to accomplish his mission. The film departs significantly from the traditional Greek myths, incorporating laser weapons, spaceships, and other science fiction elements.
Hercule was followed by a sequel, The Adventures of Hercules, released in 1985, with Lou Ferrigno reprising his role. Both films are known for their campy style, special effects, and loose interpretations of Greek mythology.
