Gordon Roberts (ice hockey)
Gordon Roberts (born July 12, 1957) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player. He played primarily in the National Hockey League (NHL) and World Hockey Association (WHA) from 1977 to 1988.
Roberts was a centre. He was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft, but began his professional career in the WHA with the New England Whalers (later the Hartford Whalers). After the WHA merged with the NHL, Roberts continued to play for the Whalers. He was later traded to the St. Louis Blues. He also played for the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers before finishing his NHL career.
Known for his two-way play and defensive responsibility, Roberts was a valuable role player on each of his teams. He was not primarily an offensive player, but he contributed consistently with his skating, checking, and penalty-killing abilities. He also participated in community outreach and charity events throughout his career.
