Strike (unit)

A strike is a unit of measurement historically used in England to measure dry goods. It is primarily a measure of capacity and volume, typically used for agricultural products such as grain, flour, and beans. The exact volume of a strike varied depending on the commodity being measured and the local custom of the region where it was used. However, it was generally considered to be equivalent to two bushels. Therefore, since a bushel also varies slightly, the precise volume of a strike could fluctuate, but the relationship of being double the local bushel measurement remained constant. Due to the lack of standardization and the adoption of more precise metric units, the strike is no longer in common use in modern commerce.
