James Hook (rugby union)

James Hook (born 27 June 1985) is a Welsh former professional rugby union player. A versatile back, he primarily played as a fly-half but was also capable of playing at centre, fullback, and wing. He is considered one of the most naturally gifted players of his generation in Welsh rugby.

Hook began his professional career with the Ospreys in 2004, where he became a key player and a prolific point-scorer. He was known for his attacking flair, excellent kicking ability, and strong running game. He played a significant role in the Ospreys' Celtic League (later Pro12) title wins.

He earned his first cap for Wales in 2006 against Argentina. Hook went on to represent Wales in numerous international matches, including Six Nations Championships and Rugby World Cups. While often considered a key talent, he faced competition for the fly-half position throughout his international career, limiting his appearances. He represented Wales 81 times, scoring 352 points.

In 2011, Hook moved to French Top 14 side Perpignan. He later played for Gloucester Rugby in England before returning to Wales and joining the Ospreys again in 2016. He retired from professional rugby in 2020.
