Time Bandits (TV series)

Time Bandits is a 2024 fantasy adventure television series developed by Jemaine Clement, Iain Morris, and Taika Waititi. It is loosely based on the 1981 film of the same name, directed by Terry Gilliam.

The series follows a young girl named Eleanor who discovers a mysterious portal in her bedroom. This portal leads her to a group of misfit time travelers, including the returning character of Kevin, now significantly older. Together, they embark on a series of adventures through time, encountering historical figures and navigating perilous situations, all while attempting to evade the machinations of a powerful and enigmatic enemy.

Unlike the film, the TV series expands upon the lore and characters, providing deeper backstories and exploring themes of family, fate, and the responsibility that comes with manipulating time. It retains the humor and surrealism of the original film but incorporates a more serialized narrative structure.

The show stars Lisa Kudrow, Kal-El Tuck, Charlyne Yi, Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengu, Rune Temte, and Rachel House, with Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi also appearing in recurring roles. It premiered on Apple TV+ in July 2024 and has received generally positive reviews for its performances, visual effects, and expansion of the Time Bandits universe.
