Island City (2015 film)

Island City is a 2015 Indian Hindi-language drama film directed by Ruchika Oberoi. The film is an anthology of three interconnected stories set in Mumbai (formerly Bombay), exploring themes of isolation, alienation, and the complexities of modern urban life. Each story offers a unique perspective on individuals navigating their circumstances within the sprawling metropolis.

The first story, "Fun Committee," follows a disgruntled office worker who wins a lottery that requires him to smile and be happy at all times, enforced by a "Fun Committee." The second story, "The Photograph," revolves around a lonely photographer who creates a virtual family using mannequins. The final story, "Contact," depicts a young woman who escapes into a fantastical world of television, creating a unique and unconventional relationship.

Island City premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2015, where it won the FEDEORA (Federation of Film Critics of Europe and the Mediterranean) Award for Best Film.
