Rakeedhoo (Vaavu Atoll)
Rakeedhoo is an inhabited island in the Vaavu Atoll (also known as Felidhe Atoll) of the Maldives. As part of the Maldivian administrative divisions, it is governed by the Vaavu Atoll Council. Rakeedhoo is located approximately 78 kilometers (48 miles) south of the capital, Malé. The island's economy is largely based on fishing, tourism, and small-scale local businesses. The local language is Dhivehi. Rakeedhoo, like other islands in the Maldives, is vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including rising sea levels and coastal erosion. Its population is relatively small, and the island offers a glimpse into a traditional Maldivian island lifestyle. Basic amenities such as a school and health facilities are usually available, though specialized services may require travel to Malé or other larger islands.
