Zakroczym

Zakroczym is a town in Nowy Dwór Mazowiecki County, Masovian Voivodeship, in east-central Poland. It lies on the Vistula River, approximately 33 kilometers (21 mi) northwest of Warsaw. As of December 2021, the town has a population of 3,181.

History:

Zakroczym is one of the oldest settlements in Mazovia. It was granted town rights in 1327 by Duke Trojden I of Masovia. Due to its strategic location on the Vistula River, it served as an important defensive stronghold and trade center. Throughout its history, Zakroczym has been subjected to numerous invasions and battles, including those during the Swedish Deluge in the 17th century and the Napoleonic Wars in the 19th century. It suffered significant damage during World War II.
