Hinton railway station (England)
Hinton railway station was a former railway station serving the village of Hinton, in Cambridgeshire, England. It was located on the Cambridge to Oxford railway, part of the Varsity Line.
The station opened on 7 April 1862, as part of the Bedford and Cambridge Railway, which was later absorbed by the London and North Western Railway (LNWR). It provided passenger and goods services to the local agricultural community.
The station had two platforms, a station building, a goods shed, and a signal box. It also had sidings for handling goods traffic.
Passenger services were withdrawn on 1 January 1968, as part of the Beeching cuts. Goods traffic continued for a short period but the station was officially closed on 16 August 1969.
The station buildings were subsequently demolished. The trackbed through the former station site remains, and there are plans to reopen the Varsity Line, potentially including a new station in the area, although not necessarily on the exact same site as the original Hinton station.
