Nectouxia
Nectouxia is a monotypic genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Asteraceae, subfamily Asteroideae, tribe Senecioneae. It contains the single species Nectouxia annua.
Nectouxia annua, the only species in the genus, is an annual herb endemic to Mexico. It is typically found in mountainous regions and can be distinguished by its specific morphological characteristics, including its leaf structure, flower heads, and achenes (seeds).
The genus and species are named in honor of French botanist Benoît Nectoux (1790-1863).
Due to being a monotypic genus, Nectouxia is of particular interest to botanists studying plant evolution and taxonomy. Further research on Nectouxia annua could potentially offer valuable insights into the diversification of the Senecioneae tribe and the biogeography of the Mexican flora. Its conservation status is currently not well-defined and requires further assessment.
