Vivisimo

Vivisimo was a metasearch engine and enterprise search software company. Founded in 2000, it was known for its clustering technology, which automatically organized search results into thematic folders, allowing users to quickly refine and narrow their search. Instead of simply providing a linear list of results, Vivisimo grouped related web pages together, enabling users to explore different facets of their search topic.

The company's core product, Velocity, provided this clustering functionality for both web searches and enterprise information retrieval. Velocity was used by businesses, government agencies, and educational institutions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their internal and external information access.

Vivisimo was acquired by IBM in 2012. IBM integrated Vivisimo's technology into its Watson cognitive computing platform and its InfoSphere data analysis software, leveraging the clustering capabilities for improved information discovery and analysis within those products. Following the acquisition, the Vivisimo brand was phased out.
