Indo-Tibetan Border Police (Water Wing)
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) is a border guarding police force of India, primarily deployed along its border with Tibet. Within the ITBP, the Water Wing is a specialized unit responsible for operations and security in riverine environments and water bodies along the border.
The primary role of the ITBP Water Wing is to patrol and secure rivers, lakes, and other waterways in areas under ITBP jurisdiction. This includes preventing infiltration, smuggling, and other illegal activities across these water boundaries. They are also responsible for providing security to bridges and other vital infrastructure located over water bodies.
The Water Wing personnel are trained in specialized skills such as boat handling, navigation, diving, and rescue operations in water environments. They utilize various types of boats and watercraft for patrolling and surveillance.
The unit plays a critical role in maintaining border security and preventing trans-border crimes in the challenging riverine terrains along the Indo-Tibetan border.
