Cliff Lyons (actor)
Cliff Lyons (1901 – 1974) was an American actor, stuntman, and second unit director who primarily worked in Westerns. He appeared in over 300 films and television episodes, showcasing his skills in riding, fighting, and performing dangerous stunts.
Lyons began his career in the silent era, finding work as a rodeo rider and stunt performer. He quickly transitioned into film, doubling for leading men and performing difficult stunts on horseback. He was a member of the "Stuntmen's Association" and considered one of the top stunt performers of his era.
Beyond stunt work, Lyons often took on small acting roles, typically playing cowboys, outlaws, or members of posses. His rugged appearance and authentic Western skills made him a convincing presence in these roles. Some of his notable acting appearances were in films starring John Wayne, Gene Autry, and Roy Rogers.
As his career progressed, Lyons also moved into second unit directing, specializing in action sequences.
