USS Quincy (AK-10)
The USS Quincy (AK-10) was a Crater-class cargo ship commissioned by the U.S. Navy during World War II. Originally intended for the Maritime Commission as the merchant vessel SS Etamin (MC hull 110), she was acquired by the Navy on 31 January 1942 and commissioned on 22 July 1942.
As a Crater-class cargo ship, USS Quincy (AK-10) was designed to transport essential supplies, equipment, and personnel across long distances, supporting naval operations in various theaters of war. Her primary function was logistics, ensuring that forward operating bases and combat units received the necessary resources to maintain their effectiveness.
During her service, USS Quincy (AK-10) participated in operations in the Pacific Theater, supporting various island campaigns. She transported cargo between different ports and contributed to the overall war effort by maintaining the flow of supplies to troops and installations. Her service ended after the war and she was decommissioned and returned to the Maritime Commission. The ship was eventually scrapped. Her service is a representation of the logistical tail that underpinned the Navy's offensive capabilities during the war.
