USS Morris (DD-271)

USS Morris (DD-271) was a Clemson-class destroyer in the United States Navy during World War I and the interwar period. Named for Commodore Charles Morris, she was commissioned in 1919.

Morris served primarily in the Atlantic, participating in fleet exercises and training operations. She also performed patrol duties and made goodwill visits to various ports. In the early 1920s, she saw service in European waters.

As with many older destroyers, Morris was decommissioned in 1930 as part of naval arms limitations agreed upon in the London Naval Treaty. She was struck from the Naval Vessel Register and scrapped later that year. Morris did not see active service during World War II, as she had been decommissioned a decade prior to the outbreak of hostilities. Her service life was relatively short but typical of destroyers built during the period immediately following World War I.
