Stanisław Poniatowski (1754–1833)

Stanisław Poniatowski (1754–1833) was a Polish nobleman (szlachcic), landowner, politician, and soldier. He was a nephew of King Stanisław August Poniatowski, the last King of Poland.

Born into the powerful Poniatowski family, Stanisław pursued a military career early in life. He served in the Polish army and held the rank of General. He was involved in the turbulent political landscape of late 18th-century Poland, a period marked by increasing foreign interference and internal strife.

He participated in the Polish-Russian War of 1792 (also known as the War in Defense of the Constitution), fighting against the Russian forces who sought to undermine the reforms enacted by the Constitution of May 3rd.

After the partitions of Poland, Stanisław Poniatowski largely withdrew from public life. He dedicated himself to managing his estates. He died in 1833. While his uncle, King Stanisław August, has been a more prominent figure in Polish history, Stanisław Poniatowski represents a segment of the Polish aristocracy struggling with the challenges of a declining state.
