BORTAC
BORTAC, an acronym for Border Patrol Tactical Unit, is a specialized unit of the United States Border Patrol. Formed in 1984, its primary mission is to respond to critical incidents requiring specialized law enforcement skills and capabilities beyond the scope of regular Border Patrol operations.
BORTAC's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responding to civil disturbances and riots within Border Patrol jurisdiction.
- Conducting high-risk warrant service.
- Executing search and rescue operations in austere and remote environments.
- Providing specialized training to other law enforcement agencies.
- Assisting in national security events and emergencies.
- Counter-narcotics operations.
- Counter-terrorism operations.
BORTAC personnel undergo extensive training in areas such as tactical operations, firearms proficiency, close-quarters combat, and emergency medical response. The unit is often deployed to provide support to other law enforcement agencies, both within the United States and internationally, in situations requiring specialized skills and resources. BORTAC has participated in various operations and deployments, including disaster relief efforts and responses to civil unrest. Due to the nature of its work, specific details regarding BORTAC operations are often kept confidential.
