Berkelium(III) fluoride

Berkelium(III) fluoride (BkF3) is an inorganic chemical compound. It is a salt composed of berkelium in the +3 oxidation state and fluorine. As with other actinide trifluorides, it is an ionic compound. BkF3 exists as a solid.

Berkelium(III) fluoride can be synthesized by reacting berkelium(III) oxide (Bk2O3) with hydrogen fluoride (HF) gas at elevated temperatures.

Due to the radioactivity of berkelium and the small quantities in which it is typically produced, BkF3 is primarily studied in microscale quantities. It exhibits similar properties to other actinide trifluorides and is used in fundamental research related to actinide chemistry and materials science.
