Audible (film)
Audible is a 2021 American documentary film directed by Matthew Ogens. The film follows a year in the life of several students at the Maryland School for the Deaf, focusing primarily on Amaree Mckenstry-Hall, a football player dealing with the recent suicide of a close friend.
The documentary explores themes of grief, loss, identity, community, and the challenges faced by deaf teenagers as they navigate adolescence and prepare for graduation. It also highlights the importance of American Sign Language (ASL) and the unique culture of the deaf community.
Audible was produced by Nyle DiMarco, a deaf activist and actor, among others. The film received critical acclaim for its intimate portrayal of its subjects, its sensitive handling of difficult topics, and its accessibility through the use of subtitles. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary Short Subject at the 94th Academy Awards.
