IC 4687

IC 4687 is a lenticular galaxy located approximately 82 million light-years away in the constellation Pavo. It is a member of the Pavo II Group, a gravitationally bound group of galaxies. Lenticular galaxies, classified as S0 galaxies, are intermediate between spiral and elliptical galaxies, possessing a disk but lacking prominent spiral arms. They often contain a central bulge and a faint, diffuse disk of stars.

Observations of IC 4687 indicate a relatively smooth light distribution, typical of lenticular galaxies. It is considered to be a relatively isolated galaxy, with limited interactions with other galaxies in its immediate vicinity, which may have contributed to its morphological classification as a lenticular galaxy. Details regarding specific star formation rates or the presence of an active galactic nucleus are either not significant or not readily available in common astronomical databases. Its redshift value allows for the estimation of its distance based on Hubble's Law.
