Transatlantic (band)
Transatlantic is a multinational progressive rock supergroup formed in 1999. The band consists of Neal Morse (keyboards, vocals, guitars), Mike Portnoy (drums, vocals), Roine Stolt (guitars, vocals), and Pete Trewavas (bass, vocals).
Transatlantic is known for its epic-length songs, complex arrangements, and strong vocal harmonies. Their music draws influences from classic progressive rock bands such as Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, and Pink Floyd, as well as more contemporary artists.
The band's origins began with Morse and Portnoy discussing the idea of creating a new progressive rock project. They subsequently recruited Stolt and Trewavas, both highly respected musicians in the progressive rock scene.
Transatlantic has released five studio albums: SMPT:e (2000), Bridge Across Forever (2001), The Whirlwind (2009), Kaleidoscope (2014), and The Absolute Universe (2021). They have also released several live albums and DVDs.
Despite the members' commitments to their respective other bands and solo projects, Transatlantic has remained an active entity, touring periodically and releasing new material. Their albums have been met with critical acclaim and commercial success within the progressive rock community.
