Tranøya (Troms)
Tranøya is an island located in Senja Municipality, Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Troms. The island lies off the western coast of the larger island of Senja, near the village of Skrolsvik. Tranøya is known for its scenic beauty, characterized by a rugged coastline and mountainous interior. Historically, the island supported a small fishing and farming community. Today, it is primarily a destination for tourism and outdoor activities, including hiking and fishing. The name "Tranøya" likely derives from the old Norse word for "cranes" (trana) and "island" (øy), possibly indicating a historical presence of cranes on the island.
