Space Art (band)
Space Art was a French electronic space rock musical ensemble, formed in 1977 by Dominique Perrier and Gilbert Einaudi. They are known for their instrumental compositions characterized by synthesizers, electronic percussion, and a space-themed atmosphere.
The band achieved considerable popularity in Europe, particularly in France and Germany, during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Their music blended elements of progressive rock, electronic music, and disco, creating a distinctive sound that was both futuristic and accessible. Key to their sound was Perrier's innovative use of synthesizers, which created sweeping soundscapes.
Space Art released several albums, including Trip in the Dark (1977), 星空之旅 (Starry Trip) (1978), and Play Back (1980). Their most successful singles included "Onyx" and "Magic Fly," which became international hits. "Magic Fly," in particular, is considered a classic of the space disco genre.
The band's activity waned in the early 1980s. Dominique Perrier later pursued a solo career and also worked with other artists.
Space Art's music has experienced renewed interest in recent years, with their albums being reissued and their tracks appearing in various compilations. Their influence can be heard in the works of contemporary electronic music artists.
