Aria Aber

Aria Aber is a German-American poet and essayist. Born in Germany to Afghan parents, Aber's work often explores themes of migration, displacement, identity, memory, and language. She is known for her lyricism, formal experimentation, and engagement with political and cultural issues.

Aber is the author of the poetry collection Hard Damage (University of Nebraska Press, 2019), which won the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Poetry. Her poems and essays have appeared in publications such as The New Yorker, Poetry, The Yale Review, The Paris Review, and elsewhere.

She has received fellowships and awards from the Kundiman organization, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, and the Bread Loaf Writers' Conference, among others. Aber holds degrees from Columbia University and the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop. She currently teaches creative writing.
