Novi Varoš

Novi Varoš is a town and municipality located in the Zlatibor District of southwestern Serbia. Situated on the slopes of the Zlatar mountain, the town lies at an altitude of approximately 1,000 meters. The municipality encompasses a broader rural area surrounding the town.

Historically, the region has been inhabited since ancient times, with evidence of Roman settlements. Novi Varoš, as a modern settlement, developed during the Ottoman period and later became part of Serbia.

The local economy is primarily based on agriculture, forestry, and tourism. The surrounding Zlatar mountain offers opportunities for skiing in winter and hiking and outdoor activities in summer. The Uvac Special Nature Reserve, known for its meandering river and griffon vultures, is located near Novi Varoš and is a significant tourist attraction.

The population of Novi Varoš municipality is predominantly Serbian Orthodox. The town has a cultural center and hosts various local festivals throughout the year. The region is known for its traditional Serbian cuisine and hospitality.
