Little Merrill Lake (Merrill Creek)
Little Merrill Lake is a small reservoir located in Harmony Township, Warren County, New Jersey, United States. It is part of the larger Merrill Creek Reservoir project, which is primarily designed to provide makeup water to the Delaware River during periods of low flow, particularly in relation to water demands from power plants and other industrial users. Little Merrill Lake serves as a forebay for the main Merrill Creek Reservoir, meaning it is a smaller body of water that feeds into the larger reservoir.
As a forebay, Little Merrill Lake helps to regulate the flow of water into Merrill Creek Reservoir and provides a place for sediment and debris to settle before entering the main reservoir. This helps to maintain the water quality in the larger reservoir.
While smaller than Merrill Creek Reservoir, Little Merrill Lake still offers some recreational opportunities, though access is often more limited compared to the main reservoir. Fishing is permitted in accordance with state regulations, and the lake provides habitat for various aquatic species. The surrounding area features hiking trails and opportunities for wildlife observation.
