Eric Sorensen (journalist)

Eric Sorensen is an American journalist and politician. He currently serves as the U.S. Representative for Illinois's 17th congressional district.

Prior to entering politics, Sorensen worked as a television meteorologist for more than 20 years. He was the chief meteorologist at WQAD-TV, the ABC affiliate in the Quad Cities region of Iowa and Illinois. During his time at WQAD-TV, he focused on communicating weather information in a clear and understandable way to the public, particularly concerning severe weather events.

Sorensen's career as a meteorologist involved extensive public outreach and education. He frequently visited schools and community events to teach people about weather patterns, safety precautions, and the science behind weather phenomena.

In 2022, Sorensen successfully ran for Congress in Illinois's 17th district. His campaign focused on issues such as job creation, affordable healthcare, and addressing climate change. He is a member of the Democratic Party.
