Manuel Plaza
Manuel Plaza (June 17, 1898 – February 9, 1969) was a Chilean marathon runner. He is best known for winning a silver medal at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam.
Born in San Bernardo, Chile, Plaza represented his country in three Olympic Games: 1924 in Paris, 1928 in Amsterdam, and 1932 in Los Angeles. His most significant achievement was his second-place finish in the 1928 Olympic marathon, where he finished behind Boughera El Ouafi of France. This medal was Chile's first Olympic medal in athletics.
Plaza continued to be involved in athletics after his competitive career ended, working as a coach and promoter of running in Chile. He is remembered as a pioneer and one of the most important figures in Chilean athletics history. His silver medal remains a significant moment in the nation's sporting heritage.
