Al-Wahs

Al-Wahs (Arabic: الوحش) is an Arabic word meaning "the beast," "the wild animal," or "the monster." It is a general term used to describe any untamed, predatory creature, often carrying connotations of ferocity, danger, and uncontrollability. In a figurative sense, al-wahs can also refer to a person who is considered brutal, uncivilized, or lacking in compassion. The term appears in classical Arabic literature and continues to be used in modern Arabic to describe both literal animals and metaphorical human qualities. Its use frequently evokes imagery of the wilderness and the perceived threats it poses to civilization and order. In some contexts, al-wahs can also be used to describe something awe-inspiring or powerful, though this is less common than the negative connotations associated with danger and savagery.
