The Syndicate (game show)
The Syndicate is a British television game show that aired on BBC One from 1996 to 1997, hosted by Gaby Roslin. The show featured a mixture of general knowledge questions and luck-based challenges, with contestants competing for a top prize of £25,000.
Gameplay:
The game involved three contestants who competed in three rounds.
-
Round 1: The contestants answered general knowledge questions. Correct answers earned them points which were translated into time for the next round.
-
Round 2: The contestants used the time they accumulated in Round 1 to navigate a large, physical "Syndicate" - a series of interconnected rooms and tunnels. Within the Syndicate, they had to locate five hidden money tokens. Each token was worth a varying amount of cash.
-
Round 3 (The Vault): The contestant who found the most money in the Syndicate progressed to the final round, "The Vault." Inside the Vault, the contestant faced a series of doors. Behind each door was either a cash prize or a "Syndicate symbol." Finding three Syndicate symbols ended the game with the contestant losing all their money from the Syndicate. Finding all the cash prizes, which totalled £25,000, won the grand prize.
Format:
The show was notable for its elaborate set design, particularly the complex "Syndicate" maze used in the second round. It aimed to combine the knowledge-based aspects of traditional quiz shows with a more physical and adventurous element. The show ran for two series before being cancelled.
