Philip Courtenay (died 1406)
Philip Courtenay (died 1406) was an English nobleman and Member of Parliament. He was a son of Hugh Courtenay and Margaret de Bohun, daughter of Humphrey de Bohun, 4th Earl of Hereford and Elizabeth of Rhuddlan, daughter of Edward I.
Courtenay served multiple terms as a Member of Parliament for Devon, including 1386, 1390, and 1395. He was a significant landowner in Devon and held positions of local authority.
He married Anne Wake, daughter of Sir Thomas Wake, of Blisworth, Northamptonshire. They had at least two children:
- John Courtenay (died 1415), who married Margaret Champernowne and was the father of Sir Philip Courtenay (died 1463).
- Another possible child, whose name and information require further verification.
Philip Courtenay died in 1406. His descendants continued to hold prominent positions in Devonshire society and were involved in national politics. He is sometimes confused with other contemporary members of the Courtenay family, requiring careful attention to genealogy and dates.
