Babou (ocelot)
Babou is a name sometimes given to an ocelot, often as a pet. The term gained significant popularity due to its use in the animated television series Archer, where Babou is the pet ocelot of character Cheryl Tunt. The name, within the context of the show, is often mispronounced by other characters, particularly Sterling Archer, who often refers to Babou as "buyerbeware" or other similar mangled pronunciations.
Ocelots are wild cats native to the Americas. They are typically solitary and nocturnal, residing in a variety of habitats, including rainforests, grasslands, and mangrove forests. They are characterized by their distinctive spotted coats. Due to hunting and habitat loss, ocelots are considered a threatened or endangered species in many regions. Owning an ocelot is illegal in many jurisdictions, and requires specific permits where legal. Despite the portrayal in Archer, ocelots are generally not suitable as domestic pets.
