Meierturm

A Meierturm (German, literally "Mayor's Tower") is a type of fortified tower, often associated with a manor house, castle, or estate in German-speaking regions. The term doesn't necessarily imply that the tower was occupied by a mayor; rather, it usually denotes a tower that was used for defensive purposes and possibly for administrative or residential functions related to the management of the estate.

These towers often served as a symbol of the owner's status and power, providing a vantage point for overseeing the surrounding lands and offering a secure refuge during times of conflict. The architectural style of a Meierturm can vary considerably, ranging from simple, robust structures to more elaborate designs incorporating decorative elements. They are often constructed of stone and may feature narrow windows, machicolations, or other defensive features.
