La Heutte is a village and former municipality in the Jura bernois administrative district in the canton of Bern, Switzerland.

History

On 1 January 2014, the former municipalities of La Heutte and Péry merged to form the new municipality of Péry-La Heutte. Before the merger, La Heutte was an independent municipality.

The village's history is intertwined with the history of the surrounding valley. Historically, it was part of the seigniory of Erguel and, like other villages in the area, its economy was largely based on agriculture and watchmaking.

Geography

La Heutte is located in the valley of the Suze river, at the foot of the Jura mountains. The area is characterized by rolling hills and forested areas. Before its merger, it occupied an area of roughly 8 square kilometers.

Economy

Traditionally, the economy of La Heutte was based on agriculture and watchmaking. In more recent times, other small businesses and residential areas have developed.

Demographics

Before the merger, the population of La Heutte was around 500 people. The population was predominantly German-speaking.

Politics

Prior to the merger, La Heutte had its own municipal council and administration. Since 2014, it is part of the municipality of Péry-La Heutte and its political representation is within the larger municipal structure.
