Dino (film)
Dino is a 1957 American science fiction giant monster film released by Allied Artists Pictures Corporation. The film centers around a dinosaur, an Apatosaurus (mistakenly referred to as a Brontosaurus in the film, a common error at the time), that is accidentally hatched from a frozen egg after being awakened by a series of explosions during quarrying operations. The dinosaur escapes and wreaks havoc on a nearby town.
The film stars Ward Bond, Brian Keith, and Kristina Miller. The special effects were notable for their time, featuring stop-motion animation created by Willis H. O'Brien, known for his work on the original King Kong.
Dino is considered a minor entry in the giant monster movie genre, but is recognized for its early use of stop-motion animation and for reflecting Cold War anxieties. Despite its flaws, it remains a cult classic among dinosaur and monster movie enthusiasts.
