Thomas Howell (bishop)
Thomas Howell (died 1646) was a Welsh Anglican bishop. He served as the Bishop of Bristol from 1644 until his death in 1646.
Details of his early life and education are scarce. He was appointed to the See of Bristol during the English Civil War, a period of considerable upheaval and uncertainty for the Church of England. His appointment was made by King Charles I, and his tenure as bishop was brief, lasting only two years before his death. During this time, the Diocese of Bristol was significantly impacted by the war, facing both financial and organizational challenges.
Little is known of his specific actions and policies as bishop due to the limited historical records available from this turbulent period. However, given the political climate, it is likely that he was a supporter of the Royalist cause. After his death, the See of Bristol remained vacant for a considerable period due to the ongoing political instability of the Interregnum.
