William Robertson (Scottish architect)

William Robertson (1820-1888) was a prominent Scottish architect, known for his work in the Gothic Revival and Scots Baronial styles. He was based in Elgin, Moray, and his practice significantly shaped the architectural landscape of the north of Scotland.

Robertson served as the architect to the Duke of Fife, overseeing the design and construction of numerous estate buildings, churches, and country houses. His designs often incorporated local materials and vernacular elements, reflecting a sensitivity to the surrounding environment and a desire to create buildings that were both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Notable examples of his work include Duff House Mausoleum, various churches throughout Moray, and numerous additions and alterations to Duff House itself.
