Battle of Leego (2015)
The Battle of Leego was a military engagement that took place in Leego, Somalia, in July 2015 between the Somali National Army (SNA) and allied African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) forces, and the al-Shabaab militant group. Al-Shabaab forces attacked and briefly seized control of the Leego military base, which was manned by Burundian AMISOM troops. The attack resulted in significant casualties on both sides, particularly among the AMISOM contingent. Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack, stating they had inflicted heavy losses. Following the initial assault, AMISOM and SNA forces launched a counter-offensive to retake the base. The battle highlighted the ongoing challenges in maintaining security and stability in Somalia and the persistent threat posed by al-Shabaab.
