The Big Breakfast (Australian TV program)
The Big Breakfast was an Australian breakfast television program that aired on the Seven Network from 1992 to 1995. It was a revamp of the network's previous breakfast show, Sunrise, and aimed for a younger, more irreverent audience.
The show was known for its high-energy presentation, celebrity interviews, comedic segments, and viewer interaction. It featured a revolving cast of presenters, including Tim Bailey, Lizzy Gardiner, and Michael Usher. Recurring segments included cooking demonstrations, news updates presented in a lighthearted manner, and competitions.
Unlike more traditional breakfast news programs, The Big Breakfast placed a strong emphasis on entertainment and humour. It often incorporated stunts and pranks into its broadcast, and its presenters were encouraged to be playful and engaging.
Despite its popularity, The Big Breakfast was cancelled in 1995 as part of a network reshuffle. Its replacement, Sunrise, eventually adopted a more news-focused format and went on to become a long-running and successful breakfast television program in its own right. While short-lived, The Big Breakfast is remembered for its innovative approach to breakfast television and its lasting impact on the genre in Australia.
